Pigeon Point Lighthouse | Pescadero, CA

Not long before we took off on our trip, I came across a blog post about lighthouse hostels. It sounded like the coolest thing to me, and after a bit of research I found the Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel, known for its hot tub that overlooks the ocean. The hostel rooms are not in the lighthouse, but in four houses that are situated just beside the lighthouse.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a tourist destination as well as a hostel. During the afternoon, there are many couples and families exploring the property, from the ocean-side cliffs and tide pools to the seemingly private beach alcoves. We sat on a bench overlooking the water for awhile, enjoying the breezy and salty air, and watching for whales and seals. As it became early evening, we drove over to the small town of Pescadero to gather provisions for a picnic dinner on the lighthouse grounds.

During registration that afternoon, we signed up for the hot tub and were lucky enough to snag the half-hour time slot leading up to sunset. So as the sun started to set, we headed to the hot tub at the back of the property, overlooking the ocean. At some point during the afternoon we realized that this day marked the half-way mark of our trip. We were thrilled to be doing something so fun and memorable on such a significant day, and we felt especially blessed and thankful as we watched the sun disappear.
