Joshua Tree National Park, CA

Joshua Tree National Park was like nothing we'd ever seen before! Joshua trees truly look like something out of a Dr. Seuss book; it's amazing to look out over a long stretch of the Mojave Desert and see row after row of these unique trees.

Expecting mostly flat land sprinkled with funny looking trees, we were surprised to also find hills of bare rock throughout parts of the park.

We got out of the car to hike around a couple times, exploring the trails that were lined with cacti, other desert plants, and a few lizards (I was thrilled that we didn't see any snakes!). It was fun to experience a new type of terrain for hiking, and we learned quickly that hiking on flat desert land in the heat of summer can be just as tiring as hiking up a mountain in more reasonable temperatures.
