Bonneville Salt Flats, UT

Being a guy, and liking all-things-car, I was very excited to visit the Bonneville Salt Flats. The place is legendary, being the location for numerous land speed records. Amanda and I did briefly discuss letting Zion (our car) loose on the salt flats - I bet he could hit a buck-fifty or so - but wisdom prevailed.

I did take the opportunity to check how salty the salt flats are by licking a small pebble I picked up from the ground. And the answer is: very salty! Even though there is a fountain for you to wash your feet/shoes before getting back in your car, there are footprints of salt along the path from the flats to the parking lot, similar to how up north in the winter you'll see salt streaks on the sidewalks from melting the ice.

One thing we weren't prepared for was that, on the drive to the Bonneville Salt Flats, we passed a lot of other salt flats. They came in patches and none were consistently as large as the main attraction.

Note: there is a rest stop right off the highway where you can stop to see and walk on the salt flats.
