Wine Country, CA

I didn't do a good job of keeping track of each winery we visited, but here are few pictures from around the region anyway.

I loved seeing how different each winery was - some of the tasting rooms are on the same property as the vineyard, while others are a much smaller set-up. Some wineries had meats, cheeses, and breads that you could buy, and almost all had space, either inside or outside, where you could set up a little picnic to enjoy with your wine. Definitely a leisurely way to spend an afternoon.

There were a couple spots we came across that were so busy that the experience felt a little rushed not very special. But then there were other wineries that we really connected with, like the Clif Family Winery's Velo Vino tasting room, where two of our loves, wine and cycling, came together in a really chill atmosphere.

Not to mention, just driving around the wine region and enjoying the views is enough to make the trip worth it.

Bodega Bay + Armstrong Redwoods

 

After breakfast and sculpture-hunting in Sebastopol, we drove toward the coast to Bodega Bay, stopping along the way for oysters and a look at kitschy Hitchcock memorabilia at the Bodega Country store (Hitchcock's The Birds was filmed here). From there, it was a beautiful drive through farmland until we hit the coast. The coastline was foggy and gray and beautiful; down on the beach it was almost impossible to see more than a half-mile away.

From there, we drove a bit further up Highway 1, before taking a turn back toward Santa Rosa. We had one more stop planned for the afternoon, at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, where we set up a picnic lunch then walked through the park. The redwoods are known to be some of the tallest and oldest trees in existence, and it was really cool to be surrounded by them - talk about feeling small!

Wine Country | Sebastopol, CA

We left San Francisco and made our way to wine country where we met up with Taras's parents for a few days.

During our first day together we decided to drive out to the coast, stopping in Sebastopol, CA along the way for pastries and coffee at the Village Bakery. We met some friendly locals who told us to walk over a few streets to Florence Ave, where nearly every front lawn has a large sculpture. The "junk-art" sculptures are by Patrick Amiot and Bridgette Laurent and are made from reclaimed and recycled materials - the sculptures are completely amazing!
