Savannah, GA

Savannah, GA has got to be one of the most charming cities around.  We definitely heard more than one "bless his heart" during our visit.  Savannah is full of beautiful homes and architecture, all surrounded by one of the 22 city squares. We are excited to return to Savannah and spend time photographing the architecture and beauty that the city is known for!

On this particular trip we were celebrating a good friend's 30th birthday.  We spent a lot of time hanging out and enjoying home-cooked meals at our rental house.  Said house happened to be a great place to lounge.  The interior was full of nautical photographs and Taras spent a decent amount of time thumbing through the very diverse library of books.  I personally took to the period antiques, beautiful chandeliers, and claw foot tub. This house also happens to be where John Cusak stayed while filming Midnight in the Garden of Good in Evil. That makes us famous, right?

On the day we arrived, many peoples' flights were delayed, including the birthday girl.  The three of us who got into town early enjoyed some oysters and beer on River Street, then went to dinner at Casbah, where we were delightfully surprised.  We hadn't realized that Moroccan fare was more specfic than general Mediterranean food.  The waiter let us know that, traditionally, Moroccan food is eaten with your hands. And so we ate with our hands. Delicious cornish hens, fresh fish, and I don't remember what else.  But it was all delicious. The dinner was even more memorablee thanks to the colorful decor and belly dancers.

The one group meal we ate out was at Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons. It was one of those when in Rome adventures.  The restaurant is such an operation.  They shuffle you through the gift shop while you wait for your table (we waited more time than I want to admit, considering we had a reservation!).  Then we went to the third floor to have lunch.  Third floor!  An operation, for sure.  The food was traditional southern and tastey, but not anything so good that we want to go back.

What kind of "cake" do you get a birthday girl who doesn't really dig cake?  You get her ice cream sandwiches (with sprinkles!) from Cold Stone Creamery.
