Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
No great American road trip would be complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon, a canyon in Arizona known for its geologic formations, colors, and its large size (277 river miles long, 18 miles wide, and one mile deep).
At first sight of the canyon, it was difficult to absorb what I was actually looking at- it was overwhelming, really. It took some time of standing on the ledge, looking out to the vast openness, to really appreciate the grandeur of the canyon.
I loved climbing up the Desert View Watchtower, a replica of a prehistoric Indian tower that is filled with beautiful art murals and provides a stunning view of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
We both watched that helicopter fly around the canyon and decided that next time we're doing a helicopter ride! Can you imagine those views?
It's really amazing that we have something so extraordinary in our country's backyard.
We found some friends hanging out near the visitor's center - they let us get super close to them!
